Toronto Card
There was a resident who I met in Toronto (unsurprisingly, considering the card's appearance), who was incredibly intelligent, communicative and also very kind in answering my numerous questions. I learned a bit about them - namely, that their home was Toronto, and decided to make a card to reflect this bit of their background.
Toronto's skyline is beautiful yet complex. I had not idea how to truly capture it in a card, and tried to recall the rule: KISS (keep it super simple), not because I wanted to make it simple but because I knew that if I overcomplicated it (and at this point, I was spiraling because I was considering watercolours, sketching the buildings to represent the skyline), it would be a mess. I decided to draw out the most notable landmark - the CN tower - and draw some various buildings around it. I cut out small windows to resemble the appearance of a city at night and also cut out some letters (no room for the full "YOU" word and settled for "U") for the front of the card.
After creating a simple interior to the card with a white surface to write on and some hearts in the same shades as the front of the card, I realized that there was too much empty space on the skyline component and threw in a little crescent moon as well.
This card was a good exercise in trying to see the beauty in simple things, as well as time management - if I had longer, I think I could definitely think of better and more beautiful ways to style this card or a "city skyline" card for the future.
