Japanese Origami Paper Cards
It was the birthday for a truly dear friend of mine and I needed to create two cards - one for group signing and one for my personal gift to them.
Things that I knew about this friend was that they had gone on a trip to Japan in the past and enjoyed anime. They are also a bright and sunny person - truly lighting up each room and encounter they are a part of. Lastly, they were also quite artsy themselves - they were amazing at painting (strawberry painting was theirs) and incredibly talented in crafts.
For these two cards, I tried to choose a colourful origami paper to reflect how positive my friend was. I further incorporated some clouds and a sun to show that they really make gloomy days seem sunnier when they are around. I used some lovely tape with van Gogh's Starry Night to secure the white surface where I would write as well as reference my friend's personal artistic ability. Lastly, I used remaining paper from the first card to create a backdrop and accents on the second card, leaving room for folks to sign their birthday wishes.
With this card, I wish I had some sort of alphabetical paper punch because the HAPPY BDAY would look so much more polished if it were cut out from a paper punch rather than drawn on by hand and accented with origami paper as it is here. I always prefer to cut letters out of paper because it appears more solid and professional, but that will be a purchase for the future (when I have an income lol)!
